Dr. Ya-Yu Chiang
蔣雅郁
Dr. Ya-Yu Chiang is an Associate Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering National Taiwan University in Taiwan. She obtained her doctor's degree from the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, Technische Universität Dortmund (Germany). Her current research interests are fluidic manipulation, biomimicry, and multiphase mass transfer and mechanic. Dr. Chiang is recognized with Excellent Young Scholars and Taiwan Future Tech Awards from the National Science and Technology Council. She has also received several awards, including Corning Outstanding Female Researcher 2023, Gold medal in the Taiwan Innotech Expo Innovation Patent Competition, the National Chung Hsing University Outstanding Industry-Academia Cooperation Award, Academic Research Performance Incentives, College of Engineering Outstanding Mentor Award, College of Engineering Outstanding Service Award, Honorable mention Young Scholars Award of Taiwan Comprehensive University System.

恭喜你們進入機械系/所，無論是因為嚮往這個學科，或是為了未來需要謀一份工作，或是根本不知道這是什麼領域，只是因為分數落點剛好是在這裡，歡迎你們，未來幾年可以好好體驗一下這撐起世界運轉的重要推手。
我的學習背景很多元，大學本科是工業教育機械組(現台師大機電科技系)，大四專題第一次接觸微精密加工與微機電製程，碩士班進入台大應力所後，第一次將工程傳統領域所學的技術，應用在解決生物醫學上目前面臨到的難題。這時候我在學經歷上的追求，仍大抵跟一般人類似：畢業之後可以找個餓不死，甚至過得不錯的工作，有著不錯的社會地位。在這之前，我不曾好好思索「為什麼要作研究，我為什麼真的需要念碩班博班？」難道真的只是為了餓不死？
直到在德國念博士班的期間，指導老師在我投出第一篇SCI Paper時，曾經跟我說過一句話：「辛苦認真作研究的目的，不是只有發表成山成堆的papers，而是要改變這個世界，讓它變得更美好！」我才知道我繞了一大圈，過了這麼久時間，才真正正視自己的身分，而這句話也重建了我作研究的初衷，也讓這份Paper的責任與價值更為重大，或許在世界的某一個角落閱讀我們研究成果的人，也能因此應用來解決某些研究難題，讓這世界更加美好。
因此，我所教授與指導的機械領域課程，除了原理與實務應用之外，還希望同學可以思考科技工程對於社會與世界的影響，成為優秀的工程師以外，我也期待我們能夠成為關心且改變這世界的一份子！
